My goal for this activity was to get a better idea of Form & Senses and to learn the necessary skills to create physical objects. I think that I succeeded in both.a

By doing this course I realized that form is the main way of communication for a designer. I learnt about clarity, definition and finish as means to evaluate designs of myself and others. The book ‘The History, Theory and Practice of Product Design’b taught me about the different design traditions over the world and served as a way of inspiration and material to exercise evaluating designs.

The assignments to create physical objects were great exercises. Each time I noticed that the result was an improvement of the previous homework. I learnt about the process of transforming an idea in my mind into an object: First by sketching, using techniques as perspective and bounding boxes. Then by making a building plan and by learning how to work with the industrial machines in the student workshop. And in the end by giving the object a nice finish. I am now able to give my prototypes a smooth paint job using spray paint, -primer and (spray) putty.

“I believe you did a very good job and you reflect very well on what you have learned and need to continue developing. I hope you will do as you promise and I am confident that you will become a great designer as you specified when we asked you why you had joined the elective.”c
