Project – Massine Making music improvisation more accessible

Massine is a tool to influence music around you by dancing to control sound effect filters. Special movements trigger effects on other instruments. I developed a wide range of competencies, most notably Design Process, Form & Senses, User Focus & Perspective and Integrating Technology among others.

Assignment – Intercultural Awareness Using the theory of cultural dimensions

Hofstede’s theory of cultural dimensions was the core of this assignment. I applied the theory by interviewing Jorge Alves Lino and by group discussions. I also got to know other fellow students a little better.

Basic course – Physics Report Applying physics in a design context

I analyzed the durability and energy consumption of my B1.1 project in this report, using the skills and knowledge that I learned in the Basic Course Physics.

Assignment – Disruptive Business Processes Learning from failed products

This course focused on failed products and the processes causing them. I researched the Amazon Fire Phone and while doing that I learned that DBP is not about money, but about working together and adding value.

SDL – The Green Light District Surprising designs for a greener world

The Green Light District shows smart green revolutions by scientists, artists and entrepreneurs. I went to this exhibition in the Budafabriek and got inspired by works that are provocative and made me think about the relation between human and nature.

Studytrips – Milan & Brussels Visiting Milan Design Week and various design studios

To develop my vision and to have a look at the design world outside the department I went on two study trips. I saw how designers manage the commercial and artistic aspects of design and visited Total Design and Namahn to see how they approach a design process.

Basic course – Modeling From problem to numbers and back

By following this course I learned how to approach such a process, ordering information and turning a real-world problem into abstract concepts. This is useful in design projects, for example to recognize movements using sensor data.

Basic course – USE History and ethics of engineering

USE taught me about the history of engineering and ethical issues in this field. The lessons from past and ethical theories like utilitarianism and Kantianism help me in critically look at my work and its influence on society.
