Last semester my goals were somewhat disconnected from my vision. Setting more specific goals that have a clear relation with my vision is a first step in succeeding. The result is a balanced and solid base for SDCL.

Design & Research Processes Following an unconventional, yet successful design process

A flexible groupcomposition, collaboration and a important role for user research were ingredients for an interesting design process that helped in creating a good result.

Ideas & Concepts Trying new methods for ideation

During the start up phase of the project I experimented with different ideation methods. Moodboarding proved to be really useful, although I could have gotten more out of it. System thinking for designers is a method which looks promising for future work.

User test to research movements on music

User Focus & Perspective Integrating user tests in a design process

User tests were an integral part of the project. We used them for example to define the best shape for our product, by making form studies that testers used to dance on music.

Social Cultural Awareness Analyzing culturally influenced design

I built a set of knowledge and skills that will help me to get a good view of the cultural context of my future work. Besides that, developing SCA is useful for the internship abroad I’m planning to do in B3.1

Teamwork & Communication Discovering the power of the ID community

The teamwork with Linde and Bart was really good, resulting in a project with a common vision and room for self-expression. Teamwork with other groups for OOCSI and the product video showed me the power of the community at the department.

Descriptive & Mathematical Modeling Modeling as a support for coding

I found out that Descriptive and Mathematical Modeling is a logical combination with Integrating Technology, for example for writing code.

Integrating Technology Making the next step forward

This semester I succeeded in making the project Massine wireless and connected to a central system, thanks to compact and energy efficient components (photo). The code could be optimized though. Still the result is something I only could dream of last semester.

Form & Senses Applying lessons from Basic Formgiving Skills

I followed the assignment Basic Formgiving Skills (BFS) last semester and followed a workshop about laser cutting as a SDL activity. I tried to integrate the lessons learned in the design and presentation of the project.
