Modeling

Basic course – Modeling From problem to numbers and back

What I liked about the basic course Modeling was learning how to approach such a process. At first the group assignment of creating a model to describe the effectiveness of an online marketing campaign seemed impossible. I didn’t know where to start. The theory introduced in the course helped in getting a better idea of what modeling is about, for a big part ordering and analyzing information. In this way we succeeded in creating a working model.i

The course was in general not directly applicable to design. The assignment was about optimizing a business process and the theory was explicitly discipline neutral. Still I found some elements that I find handy for me in my development as a designer. Examples of knowledge and skills that are connected to Industrial Design are the definition and conceptualization phase in the modeling process, where I learned to turn a real-world problem into a set of more abstract concepts.
