Form & Senses Applying lessons from Basic Formgiving Skills

I followed the assignment Basic Formgiving Skills (BFS) last semester and I tried to integrate the lessons learned in the process. As a SDL-activity I followed a laser cutting workshop. For the final prototype I sketched a shape based on the outcomes of the user test and used the lattice hinge technique to create the basic shape using a laser cutter. Using the woodworking skills I developed at BFS the prototype was assembled. The resulti was visually pleasing and on the Final Demo Day we combined it with a presentation showing our process.

“The final presentation was very well prepared. You communicated  your concept in a nice and clear way, the presentation was aesthetic and understandable.”

Next to that I developed my film making skills, by making video’s of prototypesii in the first half of the semester, recording an interview for Intercultural Awareness and making part of team that created the product video of the project. I saw that filming and editing requires practice. At first the audio synchronisation was problematic and shots tend to be out of focus. I learnt from this mistakes and prevented them in the final video.

Form and Senses is however not limited to just the outside and I think there is room for improvement on this part. Parts of the interaction that could be more polished, for example the mapping of the sensor. In my choice for projects next semester I focused on the possibility to develop my skills to create beautiful interaction.
