Although I find this competence interesting, I found it difficult to think of activities to develop SCA. For the DG000 presentation about this competence I did research on different educational systems in the Netherlands, but the results weren’t really relevant for the project.

After talking with my coach I realized that design history is also a part of SCA. For the assignment Basic Formgiving Skills I read the book ‘The Theory, History and Practice of Product Design.’ I knew some things about Bauhaus, but I had never heard of the Ulm Schüle of Design for example.

I now have a better overview of design history and I saw inspiring work of designers I didn’t know before like the Finnish designer Alvar Aaltoa and the Canadian designer Karim Rashid. This knowledge worked as a source of inspiration for my designs, but also made me look better at thing in daily life. Examples of this phenomenon were some elements in Sier van Rhijnb’s brutalist metro architecture of Amsterdam which gave me great inspiration about the shape of my final design for the assignment.
